1: Sound Effectian Dub
Composed for a cartoon series (which never even made it to the storyboard stage) about a super crime-fighting organisation from the future who use sonic rays to defeat the baddies. Now then, that’s as may be, but when it comes to; rock solid, locked in, on the money, bang on beat drumming... in the history of British pop music, there’s none finer than John Bradbury (Brad from The Specials). I was the bass player in his “bit on the side” crew: The JB Allstars (clips available on YouTube, vinyl available on eBay). This is just him and me, recorded in Larry Wallis’s Dads 8track studio in 1984. And I would contest, on the grounds that there’s no question about it, it’s the most creditable Punk Dub release ever?
2: Eight Steps To Enlightenment
Spoof fly on the wall yoga documentary. Written and directed: Mahny Djahanguiri, filmed: Sean Reilly. Personally, I’m a devoted follower of the teachings of BKS Iyengar, so this was a pleasure to get my teeth into.
3: Disleyworld (lose your mind)
Terry Disley, one of THE most talented musicians alive today. He does his thang around San Francisco these days. Winning accolades and perspex trophies all over the place. But this is one piece in the key of C minor that I got him to play on without him knowing it was my tribute to his zenlike ability to tickle them ivories!
4: Small Talk
One of the biggest Hollywood spin offs is the Star Wars conventions in the USA run by George Lucas and Disney. It’s phenomenally HUGE business. Actors who played third droid on the left can sign as many as a zilloin pictures a day for the never ending streams of devotees. The highlight of these events is “Small Talk”, hosted by veteran Star Wars actor: Warwick Davis (Willow, Harry Potter, Ray, Narnia, etc etc). It’s a live chat show and these are all the cues.
